Wall & ceiling mounted air conditioning FAQs

How do wall-mounted air conditioners work?

A wall-mounted air conditioner is part of what is known as a ductless AC or mini-split AC. It works by taking warm interior air and moving it across a cooling element containing a refrigerant that lowers the temperature and dehumidifies it, while the heat removed from the air is transported to a condenser, usually located outside the building, to be dispersed.

They typically have a filter which destroys fungi, dust, bacteria and viruses to clean the air. Modern units have inverter compressor designs with quiet fans. These are high performance cooling and heating systems, with controls for comfort and efficiency.

How to install a wall-mounted air conditioner?

We have more than 40 years’ worth of air conditioning installation experience, and we recommend you rely on professional fitting. However, some tips to bear in mind:

  • Keep your space properly ventilated, for example, don’t put furniture in front of an air vent.
  • Install the wall-mounted unit as high as possible. The basic rule of physics is hot air rises, so the nearer the ground you install a unit, the longer it will take to cool a room.
  • Position the outdoor unit in a shady, dry and well-ventilated location to ensure maximum efficiency.
Do wall-mounted air conditioners need to be vented?

In a word – yes. Wall mounted air conditioners need venting in order to remove the warm, moist air from the system and your room.

Are wall-mounted air conditioners good?

Wall-mounted air conditioning is a good option. It is energy efficient in the correct location and can often cool a room faster than other systems. With internal thermostats, they also have the ability to shut off when the room reaches a certain temperature, saving you money in utility costs.

Are wall-mounted air conditioners efficient?

Wall-mounted air conditioners are the most regularly used type of air conditioning units because they are efficient, effective, and versatile.

What is wall-mounted air conditioning called?

A wall-mounted ductless air conditioner can also be referred to as a mini split system, or ductless mini split system because of the separate condenser unit on the outside of a building.

How to clean a wall-mounted air conditioner

Most business or home owners shouldn't do extensive AC maintenance themselves - hire a professional for that. However, maintaining decent air quality in your home or workplace does require the system to be cleaned and serviced every 12 months. We’ll work on your indoor and outdoor units, ensuring the air filters are clean and your outdoor unit’s fan blades are clean and straight.
