Project – Production Freezer Extension

The Real Lancashire Black Pudding Company is a family owned business based in the Rossendale valley, manufacturing the very finest black puddings using traditional methods and the finest ingredients. Over the past 20 years, they have won a staggering number of awards for their products in both the UK and across Europe.

Design

The client required additional freezer cold room space for the storage of raw ingredients.

Michael Ward Limited were asked to provide a proposal to extend the existing holding freezer room to the front elevation, increasing the storage space by approximately 50%.

Installation.

Michael Ward Ltd carried out the full de-commission & removal of the existing refrigeration system. The room was extended to the front elevation, including removal and replacement of the insulated floor c/w low voltage heater mat system to prevent frost heave.

A new ‘pallet sized’ hinged access door was also specified and installed to the side wall allowing easy loading.

Once complete Michael Ward engineers installed a new J&E Hall weather proof scroll condensing sited externally with a single Searle KEC evaporator and new system control panel.

Room operating temperature -21 Deg C.



Dalziel Ltd, Chorley

Project – Chiller Cold Room Extension

Operating nationally from 12 distribution sites across the UK, Dalziel Ltd is one of the UK’s largest suppliers of chilled & frozen wholesale meat products to the meat processing and butchery trade. From their Chorley site, the company supplies a comprehensive range of chilled & frozen meat products, seasoning blends, sauces and ingredients including butchery supplies & sundries.

Design 

Due to steady growth, the client required additional chiller cold room space for the storage of chilled meat products. Plans were drawn up to extend the existing chiller cold room to the front elevation of the building to increase capacity by approximately 75%.

Michael Ward was successful in tendering for the chiller cold room extension including the full build of the insulated room and supply, installation and commissioning of a new refrigeration system.

 

Installation

Internal Room Dimensions : 12.8m x 10.2m x 6.8m High.

Operating Temperature: +2 Deg C.

Groundworks commenced August 2016 to extend the existing building, followed by the erection of the new chill room and installation of the refrigeration system.

The project involved a number of challenges from minimising disruption to the client and complying with current food safety regulations whilst the construction works were undertaken.

The final cut through from the existing to the new room had to be carefully planned to minimise disruption to the client and ensure temperatures were maintained at all times.

The existing room had a considerable value of stock within and therefore maintaining the temperature at +2 was paramount.

 

This work was carried out across a weekend when the factory was closed.

All works were completed and to schedule by the following Monday, allowing the client to start using the new area.

Michael Ward engineers installed a twin evaporator system comprising;

2 No. Searle KEC 70-4L Evaporator Unit.

1 No. J&E Hall JEH2-1000-M-3 fully housed condensing unit.

Project- New Chill & Freezer Cold Rooms

Birchall Foodservice is an independent, family owned business established in 1939, specialising in the food-service sector. Based in Burnley, Lancashire the company supplies and delivers a wide range goods to a varied client base from independent caterers, restaurants and hotels to the care, education and hospitality sectors from the midlands to the Scottish borders. Their vast product range includes grocery, chilled, fresh, frozen, dairy and non-food products.

Design

The company was relocating to larger premises due to a considerable expansion of the business.

Within the new premises, the client required a large chill room cold and freezer room for storage of their chilled and frozen products.

Michael Ward Ltd was invited to tender for the supply and installation of all refrigeration works and was successful in securing the contract mid-2014.

3 No. Beacon Housed Condensing Unit.
